Cord: Caitlin Sweet and Freddie Fagula

Interactive fabric and soundscape installation

“ ‘Cord’ is a way to record community interaction, it consists of rag rugs sewn together from material from queer punk and there is fabric provided for people to braid. Those braids are sewn into more rugs and added to the piece. Freddie will create sound and noise part of the piece as well as recording noise and conversation during the showing. This piece is meant to provide space for people to connect and create together.”

The Wave of Mutilation: Amy Keo, Ada Fischer, Michael Harper, Ryan Thomas

“Through the collaboration of photographer Michael Harper, make up artistry of Ada Fischer, and documentary work of Ryan Thomas, we hope to exhibit, “The Wave of Mutilation” in hopes of de-centering the whiteness of the second wave, and to create visibility for women of color feminists and Third world feminists. Each person is taking on my concept of white face by either documenting the process, applying the make up and re-contextualizing my face to be a second wave feminist, and or photographing to be exhibited. This project would be only an idea without my community of artists.

To shift the dominant discourse of second wave feminist theory and practice that silences and is “thoughtlessly white” (Rich 219), my project aims to acknowledge colonialism and trauma by utilizing Gerald Vizenor’s, Theory of Survivance, by white facing myself, the subjects I intend to portray are Betty Freidan, Gloria Steinem, Judy Chicago, Martha Rosler and anti-feminist, and Phyllis Shalfly. I will embody these Western second wave feminists and anti- feminist Shalfly, by modeling theses women as I return the gaze and re-contextualize the experiences of displacement, process of translation, and articulation. My photo series will attempt to identify the ideologies of second wave feminisms that bypassed and ignored women of color and Third world feminists while documenting my process and experiences of exhibiting my photo project.”

“Our project is about communication over letters and emails written around 10-15 years ago. There will be 33 letters that have been xeroxed, inverted in color, along with 33 printouts of paragraphs derived from old emails. These 66 pages will be juxtaposed in a checkered fashion, communicating with each other.”
